We're passionate about growing heirloom garlic varieties. And we grow over 20 varieties each year. Why so many? One reason is because growing heirloom garlic helps preserve this species' diversity. Most people never realize there are over 150 varieties of garlic.
We also love to grow heirloom gourmet garlic because we're foodies. We love to cook--and we use a lot of garlic. When we started growing garlic for our own use, we realized what we'd been getting at the stores was a poor substitute for these older varieties. The smell, the taste...these varieties are what garlic tasted like for our grandparents and great grandparents.
Rich. Earthy. Pungent. Fragrant. That's what real garlic should be.
Large commercial operations don't grow heirloom gourmet garlic, particularly not the hardneck varieties. They're instead grown by small farmers, like us, who love garlic and love sharing these diverse, flavorful varieties with you.
All our garlic grows naturally, without artificial pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers. Good soil enrichments--like composed horse manure, buckwheat and manure tea--allow us to grow gourmet garlic without the need for toxic chemicals.
We're Certified Naturally Grown, too. We follow the certified organic standards set by the federal government but without unnecesary paperwork.
